Orange – Snowboard Film by RJ Films

This is my 6th film. Shot exclusively on 16mm and Super 8mm film.
I use my H16 Bolex with Kern / Switar 10mm super wide lens and my Sankyo camera fitted with a .5 wide adaptor on it’s stock mini zoom lens.
Fuji 64D film for all the 16mm film and Eastman Kodak reversal film for the Super 8.
Start the year filming east as always.
Head west in February to film a month or so out west based again in Lake Tahoe.
Back in time for the U.S. Open at Stratton and more East Coast filming.
Then round out the year west again until the end of winter and spring.
Head to Europe again for the summer.
I shoot an excellent skate contest in Dortmund Germany.
And then off to the glacier at Hintertux, Austria this year.
I remember getting skunked there day after day of shitty cloudy weather useless for filming.
With one day left I get obliterated at an ’80s’ party with all the crew.
The next day? Bluebird of course. And me with a screaming hangover. One of, but not the worst I’ve ever had. I have to stop multiple times in lodges heading up the various lifts into extremely high altitude. I feel like my head might explode.
But the blue skies and amazing snowboarding in the park kind of make up for it all.
Fabian Rohrer I remember being a big standout there.
I traveled down from Holland with my still photographer Saskia De Kok, and two American snowboarders: Tom Flocco, and . Both have flying hookups and get to Europe for free (!). We cram into my week rental a hilarious Renault Twingo. Getting back home is hilarious with bags crammed onto all of our laps. I think the car tops out at 108 mph on the German autobahn and I have to constantly scan my review for those Mercedes and BMW types bombing at 150 mph.
