Just rebuilt my Nikon Nikkor 85mm f/2 Prime!!!!`

Super stoked.
Just rebuilt my Nikon Nikkor 85mm. The focus feel on this lens is amazing.
I’ve had this lens for maybe 15 years?
It’s always had something mechanically wrong with it – the iris jams open, or really wherever you set the f Stop you cannot re-close the iris after it’s mounted on the camera. It jams open.
I finally discovered a few days ago that it’s caused by the oil that leaked internally onto the iris blades. Oily residue was clear to see on the delicate iris blades.

Took me about one hour to do the whole tear down, clean and rebuild!

I just completely tore down the lens and submerged the iris holders and the iris blades in 91% alcohol and then used a brand new lint free iphone screen wipe to scrub any remnants off after the 15 minute alcohol bath.

So excited, my lens now operates perfectly!!!

Just this past week I machined a new rear mount screw to replace a missing one.
At this point, due to stripping out the 3rd screw on the mount, there are only now two screws holding in the metal lens mount. I guess that’s going to have to be okay. I may decide later to drill out a new mount hole in the silver metal back and the black aluminum lens part it screws into. We shall see.
Very very happy to finally get full operation from this lens and get out and shoot with it without limitations!
